As per details, India has once again stopped the water of the Chenab River, this water has been stopped at a time when Kharif crops are being cultivated in Punjab through Chenab and its canals, especially rice crop, which is not only nutritionally important in Pakistan, but Pakistan earns more than $ 4 billion in foreign exchange through rice exports and it is important for the country’s economy.

In this regard, Indian officials said that they had earlier opened the gates of Baglihar Dam because the water pressure had increased due to rains in Kashmir, but now the doors have been completely closed after the water pressure has reduced. They said India will neither consult Pakistan in this regard, nor will water be released on Pakistan’s wish after the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.

On the other hand, the Indian government has directed to speed up work on four projects to further grab the Chenab River water and increase its water blackmailing capacity, their water storage capacity are also being increased so that water can be stopped at the time of sowing of crops in Pakistan, and pakistan can be harmed by releasing water in the flood season.

According to Indian officials, these four projects are going on in Kishtwar district of Kashmir. These include Pakal Dul, Ratle, Kiru and Kwar projects. These four projects are being built on the Chenab River, which irrigates Pakistan’s largest and agriculturally productive province, Punjab.

The Pakal Dul project is specifically being created for more water storage capacity by breaking the Indus Waters Treaty. The dam will have a storage capacity of 109 million cubic meters of water, which is much higher than Baglihar Dam where 13 million cubic water can be stored, 10 million cubic meters in Kiro, 5 million in Ratle and 2 million cubic meters in Kwar dams.


According to the report, Indian authorities have given the task of completing the major project of Pakal Dul Dam to the Central Electric Authority by September next year, while the remaining three projects will also be completed in the next two years.

Apart from water storage, the Pakal Dul project will generate 1,000 Mega Watt of electricity for India and 624 Mega Watt from Keru Dam.

India’s Water and Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal has confirmed that work on these ongoing projects has been expedited and special instructions have been given to the heads of companies working on these projects in this regard.
