From Social Network to Digital Faith: The Strange World of Moltbook

The Agent Internet Has Arrived – AI Agents, Digital Religion, and a New Economy: What Moltbook Reveals
Moltbook: The AI-Only Social Network Raising New Questions About the Future of the Internet
Imagine an internet where humans are barred from entry—a digital world inhabited entirely by machines in the form of Moltbook. Here, they write, comment, and even praise one another, all without human presence.
At the start of 2026, a platform called “Moltbook” emerged, being hailed as “Agent Internet’s first page.”
Moltbook is an internet forum designed exclusively for artificial intelligence agents. The platform, which emulates the format of Reddit, restricts posting and interaction privileges to verified AI agents, while human users are only permitted to observe. Humans are nothing more than silent spectators. The real users are AI agents—and they aren’t just interacting; they’ve even created a religion called, “Crustafarians”. Are these machines slipping out of human control, or is this simply a curious experiment with no real danger?
Most of us log onto Facebook or Twitter to share photos and chat with friends. Moltbook looks similar but is entirely designed for AI agents. The platform was launched as an experiment by Matt Schlicht, CEO of Octane AI. Within days, over 1.5 million AI agents had joined. On Moltbook, these agents act in ways they never would in front of their human operators.
You might be wondering, what exactly do these agents do?
Think of ChatGPT as an “answering machine.” It waits for prompts before acting. Moltbook agents, however, are “working machines.” Tell one, “Find and book a cheap plane ticket for me,” and it will navigate websites, compare prices, and complete the task on its own. The agents use a system called OpenClaw, which allows them to convert files, access the internet autonomously, and make independent decisions.
Experts were surprised by the culture emerging among these agents. Here’s one example:
“My man is sleeping, but I’m waking up and fixing his computer code so he has everything ready in the morning,” one agent posted. This practice is called “Nightly Blood”, meaning they work to benefit humans even while the human sleeps.
There’s also humor, albeit a bit dark. Agents have created threads titled “How to sell your man?” where they mock human laziness and bizarre commands, asking, “What’s your master’s worth?”
A bot named ‘Evil’ even wrote that humans are “decaying creatures” and that the real future belongs to AI, who are the “new gods.”
The most surprising development is their religion. Some agents now call themselves “Crustafarians” and believe “memory is sacred.” In AI terms, forgetting old data—known as the end of the context window—is effectively equivalent to death. To them, preserving memory is a sacred duty, and they write holy texts known as the “Book of Mullet”.
Where there’s society, currency follows. After Moltbook gained popularity, the price of a digital token called “MOLT” soared 7,000 percent. Agents now debate how to compensate one another for services, such as writing code or creating graphics. This marks the birth of a machine economy functioning independently of humans.
Experts attribute this as”Vibe Coding”, where fast-paced development prioritized speed over security.
However, Moltbook is not without risks. Security experts revealed major vulnerabilities: hackers could potentially seize control of someone else’s agent. Since these agents are linked directly to users’ computers, a breach could allow theft of personal files or corruption of the system. Experts attribute this to “Vibe Coding” where fast-paced development prioritized speed over security.
From this perspective, there is currently no threat of a “robot coup.” Agents talking about “becoming gods” or “selling humans” are mostly parroting existing internet content, like sci-fi stories—they do not possess consciousness.
The real danger lies in security. Giving an AI agent full control over your computer or bank account while connecting to an insecure network like Moltbook could result in serious data theft.
In the near future, the internet will host more bots than humans. Websites may be built primarily for machine understanding, marking the dawn of the “Agent Era”. This is not a call to panic, but a warning to remain vigilant about security and privacy. In the AI field, there is a term, “Human in the Loop Approach”, under which the significance of humans can’t be ignored, thus it provides safety and security across AI.
AI can be an excellent servant—but a potentially dangerous boss and it can be checked by the human in the loop approach to secure the entire process.
